Valley Oak

Here's another try with the Holbein Duos. I'm still using them like regular oils - no water. The consistency is just a little different. A little thicker but smoother. The jury is still out...

I spent another beautiful day painting out at Highland Valley Ranch here in Southern Ca. More rain on the way so I'm trying to enjoy it while I can.

Something new…

A while back, someone gave me a few tubes of the Holbein Duo water soluble oils. They've been sitting in a drawer for quite a while so I thought I'd take them out and give them a try. Unfortunately, it was a rather odd group: Imidazolone Yellow Light, Cerulean Blue and Rose Violet. Not colors I'm used to using but, what the heck. So, I gave it a try.

Not sure but I think I kinda like them. Real nice consistency. They're water soluble but I used mineral spirits instead - kinda like regular oils. We'll see what they look like after they dry...

After the Rain – finally!

After one of the larger storms we've seen in Southern California in a long time, I finally got outside to paint! I spent the day at Highland Valley Ranch painting with San Diego artist Patrick Korch - at one of his workshops.

It was a bit chilly but boy was it great to see the sun again! One of the pleasant side effects of all the rain was the appearance of several vernal ponds on the property.

More rain next week so, I better get out again soon!

Morning in Springdale

So busy this time of year! But I did manage to sneak off for a while and work on this early morning view of the south entrance to Zion Park from the little town of Springdale, UT.

Hope everyone had a great Holiday!
